Role and Importance of Teaching and Learning Physical Science at Secondary Level in Schools
Vol. 3 , Issue 2 (2025) · pp. 299-304
Abstract
Physical Science occupies a significant position in secondary school education because it provides learners with systematic knowledge of matter, energy, motion, forces, interactions, and the laws governing the natural world. Beyond disciplinary knowledge, effective teaching and learning of Physical Science contribute to scientific literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving ability, creativity, evidence-based reasoning, technological awareness, and informed decision-making. At the secondary level, students increasingly encounter abstract scientific concepts that require meaningful integration of theoretical understanding, mathematical reasoning, experimentation, observation, and real-world application. Consequently, the quality of Physical Science education has implications not only for students’ academic achievement but also for their capacity to participate productively in a science- and technology-driven society. This conceptual research article examines the role and importance of teaching and learning Physical Science at the secondary school level.
