Abstract

The works of Anita Desai, Manju Kapur, and Sudha Murthy explore themes of gender, women's rights, and women's struggles in society. The writings of these writers are studied in feminist perspective. Manju Kapur’s works explore the struggles of women in society, including gender discrimination, the lack of economic independence, and the hollowness of modern marriage. Her novel Difficult Daughters explores the position of women in Indian society, where women are often seen as protectors and providers, but are not treated equally to men. Her novel Home is about a traditional joint family, and the protagonist Nisha who suffers from gender  discrimination and physical harassment.
